The Center has 6 academic teams.
Professor Zhao Binfu and Professor Jing Zhongwei are the academic leaders of team for the pre-Qin archaeology in Northeast Asia. The team focuses on the study of the Stone Age and Bronze Age archaeology in Northeast Asia. At present, it is undertaking two major projects of the National Social Science Fund, and cooperating in the excavation of Houtaomuga, Da’an, Jilin Province, Dajinshan, Shuangliao, and habaqira in Keshiketengqi, Inner Mongolia.
Professor Song Yubin and Peng Shanguo are the academic leaders of the Northeast Asian historical and archaeological team, which is focused on the Bohai Sea archaeology in Koguryo and the archaeology in Liao, Jin and Yuan Dynasties. At present, the team is undertaking one major project supported by the National Social Science Fund and two special projects entrusted by the National Social Science Fund and has been engaged in the investigation and excavation of the temple sites of Chunnabo in Qian’an, Liao, Jin and Changbai Mountain in Antu.
Professor Feng Enxue and Professor Wang Lixin are the academic leaders of the northern frontier and eastern Siberian archaeology team, focused on the northern ethnic archaeology. At present, the team is undertaking one major project supported by the Ministry of Education and one major project supported by the Ministry of Education Base. The team is also cooperating with the National University of Mongolia on a three-year archaeological project of investigation and excavation of the Tuiyin River Basin in Mongolia.
The northwest frontier and Central Asia archaeology team is led by Professor Yang Jianhua and Shao Huiqiu, focused on the early cultural exchanges between the East and the West. At present, it is undertaking one major project supported by the National Social Science Fund. In cooperation with the Siberian Federal University of Russia and the Minusinsk Museum, the team has carried out investigation, excavation and collection of cultural relics of the Bronze Age in Central Asia and southern Siberia.
Professor Zhu Hong and Zhang Quanchao are the academic leaders of the frontier human and biological archaeology team. The team focuses on the ancient human, environment and mode of living in China’s frontier and adjacent areas. At present, the team is undertaking two key projects of the National Social Science Fund and has cooperated with the Institute of Material and Cultural History of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National University of Mongolian to carry out research on the physical characteristics of human bones and palaeodietary science at overseas in the Stone Age and Bronze Age.
Professor Cui Yinqiu and Cai Dawei are the academic leaders of the ancient DNA research team, focused on the genetic characteristics of ancient human bones, animals and plants in the frontier and adjacent areas. At present, it is undertaking a major project supported by the National Social Science Fund and the Ministry of Education, respectively. The team has cooperated with scientific research institutions in Canada, Germany, Russia, Mongolia and other countries to carry out frontier research on early human migration, cultivation and dissemination of animals and plants in Eurasia.
